Hi I’m Jo, what’s your name? On three shout out your name...if you’re lying I’ll know…
Now that we’ve been acquainted, I’d like everyone to take a moment to be completely silent and close your eyes and put your hand over your heart. If you pay attention really closely you can feel the entire universe inside of you. When life brings you chaos you always have moments like this to go back to and feel completely one with yourself and the power that you bring.
As Robin Hood once said, we must rise and rise again until lambs become lions.
We learn how to take care of ourselves by taking care of other people and we learn how to take care of other people by taking care of ourselves.
At first our hair is brushed for us, our body is washed for us and our clothes are picked out and put on for us, but as we age, we learn how to do this for others and then comes the point in our life where someone does this for us.
This act of caring for ourselves and others is a monumental part of the human experience, and if you take more moments to consider what it means to be a living breathing soul you realize that the song What A Wonderful World was written for a reason.
When all else fails in life and it’s one of those days where everything is going wrong and you’ve put your shoes on the wrong feet and you spilled your coffee all over your white shirt and you are as grumpy as someone working at the DMV, you can choose the way of empathy because a kind gesture is no extra weight on your shoulders but more of a tiny weight loss that comes in the form of someone else smiling. The feelings of others matter, they are, in a sense, tangible. They carry great power amongst the living creatures everywhere.
In some cases, empathy might be a wanting for another person's affection. This makes it selfish though. Selfless gestures of tenderness should be done without the need for reciprocation. Empathy is the understanding that even when you are deep in your own sadness, you will listen to others sadness, not because you are forced to, but because it matters. If it tickles your fancy, empathy is a sort of dance, a dance of getting to another person’s heart and frame of mind. It should be a choice we make, to pay attention and extend ourselves knowing that mountains are moving even when it’s just our arms reaching out to hug.
Whether you like it or not, at some point in your life, you will look into the eyes of the person that you love and you realize that the greatest joy in life is being able to fully care for them and stand on the sidelines cheering for their success with every chance you get because something like this is the greatest achievement or award you can recieve that is completely selfless and filled with understanding.
Do you ever think about how just like snowflakes, no two teardrops are the same and when you smile the world smiles back except for when you don’t mean it or you’re in a bad mood or you forgot how to smile because you’re too busy trying to be a part of a hip ‘scene’? I find myself thinking about that a lot because New York is filled with people just trying to figure out their lives and sometimes the worst thing we can do is fail to see life around us because we are too busy paying attention to ourselves and the idea that we have to be someone we aren’t to feel like we fit in.
Have you ever looked at someone in the eyes and said in the most genuine way possible “I believe in you?” If not, you should look around and find someone to say that to because it’s not only a nice thing, but you will find out who actually believes in you and who is just flattering you. I feel like people think it’s so easy to tell someone something negative because most people are and it’s so irritating when people say “THAT’S LIFE” because that doesn’t have to be life, people should just stop being pieces of garbage to each other and themselves.
I don’t know if you’I have a heart as big as a whale and I’m extraordinarily romantic. I feel like as humans we are always waiting for someone to be romantic, but what if we stopped waiting and started that gesture first? I may have been heartbroken pretty much every time I’ve tried to pursue love, but that hasn’t stopped me from wanting to find it everyday in everything I stumble upon. We spend so much time trying to not be heartbroken that we end up breaking someone else’s heart and then our own. As silly as it is, I believe that if you spent that little extra time trying to find love, you should open yourself up to the possibility of it. For instance, there's an old folklore that if you wear rings on your wedding fingers, it closes you off to the chance of falling in love. Even if you may not be physically attracted to someone but you are interested in things about them, you should take that chance to fall because you never know how amazing someone like them could be.
There are no accidents in this world except for when you walk onto the subway and you realize that your dress has been stuck in your underwear and that’s why everyone is staring at you. A moment when you think “wow I must look good today” turns into “wow I should have not worn Tuesday underwear on a Thursday.”
If there are an infinite number of parallel universes, there’s one where we all have feet as arms and arms as feet and every single thing you can imagine is possible and I’m actually the second coming of Elvis and not a weird excuse for someone who will cut your hair when it feels too long.
When you feel uncomfortable in your body a good thing to do is to realize that because there’s really nothing you can do about it except for to accept yourself.
Everything is a sign, there are no coincidences in life, people don’t come into your life for no reason even that Barista from Starbucks who spit in your latte because you asked for half almond milk half coconut milk in your frappuccino that later gave you a stomachache.
Don’t forget to water your plants and take a deep breath of that New York pollution and think to yourself that “today is the first or last day of my life, I hope I don’t get hit by a bicycle today, like yesterday.” Everything will be okay, even when you think that it’s not going to be. Chances are that someone else feels like you do and they might be standing next to you or they might be the FedEx guy who says that he hopes whatever you got in the mail is everything you ever hoped for. If you want to do something great, now is your chance because no one is stopping you even if you have no money and holes in your shoe and you’re ugly and you don’t know the difference between right and left so you use your hands to tell you what’s what. Like they say in the Velveteen Rabbit, you you can't be ugly, except to those who don't understand."
Everything is fine and will turn out exactly how you wanted it to, if I’m wrong you can sue me because I have always wanted to be sued and I check my mail everyday hoping for jury duty.
Something morbid to think about when you’re feeling down is how most people in pre-recorded laugh tracks are dead. Something happy to counteract that morbid thought is that at least their laughter lives on forever.
